Venting…

Hi, I’m Taylor:) I’m 14 and I was diagnosed with ALL about 2 months ago, October 7th 2010, so this is all still pretty new. Right now I’m in consolidation (I just started it the 22nd) and it hasn’t been awful so far. What I want to vent about is that it feels like nobody gets it. All my friends keep telling me things like “We love you” and “Stay strong.”  I know they love me and it’s great to hear that, but it’s hard to be strong when you are nauseous, weak, tired, have headaches, and fed up with everything. I’m only 2 months in and I’m already sick of all the medications and trips to the hem/onc clinic to get chemo every week. It all really stinks…vent over. :)

    Hi Taylor,
    My son Mike just turned 18. He was diagnosed with brain stem glioma June 28, 2010. I read your post to him and he totally knows how you feel. He can’t use his right hand to type so that’s why I’m typing for him. It made him sad to know that you are going through this too. Maybe you two guys can vent to each other.

    Good luck with everything. I know there’s nothing “right” to say but I wish the best for you and your family.

    Thanks Donna for responding so thoughtfully.
    Taylor I know it stinks—this is the part where you have to kind of sit back and realize–they don’t get it. But they can’t get it. So many hard things to grasp…even for those of us going through cancer. My tips for you are to be patient with others–most of the time they’re just trying to help. Also, be patient with yourself as you experience all the ups and downs on this roller coaster ride.

    I love your sense of humor at the end—”vent over”. Humor is important.
    But it’s okay…venting is good. It helps us cope with a lot of crazy stuff.

      My name is Quinton Cook and I was diagnosed with ALL back in June 2010. I agree completely, your family and friends do the best they can to try to encourage you to stay strong and positive, but despite all the love they show, it can seem like empty words sometimes. They just don’t understand that concept of “I’m not feeling ok, ALL THE TIME”. Our 100% has been knocked down a couple of big bars and unfortunately thats not gonna change for a while. Because your family loves you as they do they want to help to get back to your old self as quickly as possible, but unfortunately they’ll have to learn that thats just not gonna be possible for a while. But something I can tell you as a fellow cancer patient is that your endurance for the treatments WILL BUILD, and its all about taking it one step at a time. God bless you my friend, and remember that the Lord never gives us more that we can endure so your gonna make it, no matter want.
