Scared to death

I’m really sorry but I’m going to first off say I don’t have cancer. Doctors have found nodules n my thyroid and I will shortly have a biopsy. But I scared, I’m scared its cancer, scared I might not even make it. I’m 18 and have so much ahead of me and just to have these thoughts in my head kills me. I guess I came here just looking for reassurance or guidance, and to say that I applaud everyone who is dealing with cancer, you are all heros in my eyes.

    Hello Sam,

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, and yes your fears. I know it’s difficult to not feel scared when you have to glimpse into the unknown. By now you might know more and I would like to hear the update if you have it.

    But just so you know, even if it is bad news– thyroid cancer is for the most part very treatable and in many cases very successfully treated. I am living proof of that, Sam.

    I’m a two time cancer survivor– and one of my cancers was thyroid cancer.
    I had a thyroidectomy and I now live without a thyroid quite well actually with the help of a great endicronologist who keeps very good track of my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) through my regular blood testing. There are lots of stories of young people living well in spite of thyroid cancer… Have hope and know that there are lots of us who know what you are going through right now.

    Hey Leah ,
    No I actually don’t have an update because the biopsy is only in the new year. I really appreciate the concern. I don’t know what it is I’m afraid of anymore, I don’t know of its the word cancer, or even if its the unknown. I’ve had a lot of immediate family who had nodules but it wasn’t cancer and the endocrinologist said I would most probably be the same because of genetics and all. But I don’t know why I still worry I might have something uncurable. I guess answers would only be helpful at this point, and to know people, including you, have lived through it also gives me hope.

    Leah, was your thyroid cancer your first or second cancer battle? That’s why scares me is not knowing if it will reoccurre in other places. Like I wanna know if one had to do with the other and vise versa
