What I Learned From Having Cancer

The TLC teen advisory board - teens in active treatment for cancer or in remission - get together and talk about things going on or issues they feel are important to other teens. Here's what they said.

Things I learned from having cancer.

What I Learned 1. How much people care
Everybody is so caring and willing to help. It makes you feel really good.

2. How great the nurses are.
Most people don't realize how hard their job is. They have to do it all!

3. That you can't judge people by how they look.
When you look different yourself, you learn what it's like to be judged by your appearance.

4. That you can overcome anything you put your mind to.
At first, you don't think you'll be able to do it. But you can.

5. How powerful you really are.
When everything seems hopeless, you find your power. It's awesome.

6. A lot more about loving and being loved
You realize how important your family and friends are. You'll never take their love for granted.

What I Learned7. Not to sweat the small stuff.
The little things just aren't important anymore. You learn to tell the difference.

8. Greater maturity.
When you face so many things, you grow up faster than your friends. Sometimes you just have to wait for them to catch up.
